10 ways to start loving yourself the way you deserve to be loved

We all want to be loved, how honestly can you say you love yourself? How much time do you spend dwelling on your perceived shortcomings and insecurities rather than your strong points and things that you are happy about?


Loving yourself is crucial to your own self-worth, self confidence and feeling positive about life. You may think that its more important to love and be loved by others than to love yourself, but you may find it's easier to find love with another person when you love yourself and are happy.


Here are a few tips to self love:

  • Forgive yourself for your mistakes: reflect, learn and let go.

  • Keep a journal of your accomplishments: you will be surprised at what you have achieved when you look back. Remember no accomplishment is too small.

  • Treat yourself as you would a good friend: we are often kinder to others than we are to ourselves. When you are next beating yourself up about

  • Have fun on your own: set aside time for yourself to do something you enjoy. Find new things, or try things you might normally do in company, like going to the cinema. Learn to enjoy your own company

  • Say no when you want to: How many times have you said yes, because you didn’t feel you could say no. This can lead to us feeling overwhelmed and put upon. Put yourself first and set boundaries. You’ll thank yourself for it.

  • Trust yourself: we can often disregard our instincts in favour of the advice of others. You most able to know what’s best for you so listen to yourself.

If you learn self-love, you will be happier and kinder to yourself, feel more confident, and not worry so much what others think. Go on, give it a go!
